Hisago Plate Matt Blue

A gourd-shaped (hisago) plate, inspired by one of the traditional Japanese good luck motifs.

For centuries, gourds have been considered in Japan a symbol of prosperity, well-being, and numerous offspring, as their fruits grow abundantly in clusters. They are also regarded as a motif with particularly auspicious meaning – three gourds symbolize harmony and happiness, while six are believed to bring health and protection from illness.

The surface of the dish is decorated with an ajiro pattern – a traditional motif inspired by bamboo weaving, which was attributed protective meaning and the function of an amulet against evil influences.

The combination of the gourd's symbolism and the ajiro pattern makes the plate not only an elegant piece of tableware but also an item with exceptional auspicious significance in Japanese culture.
