Hisago Seihaku Plate (White Blue)
A gourd-shaped plate (hisago), inspired by one of the traditional Japanese motifs believed to bring good luck.
For centuries, the gourd has been regarded in Japan as a symbol of prosperity, wealth, and abundant offspring, as its fruits grow profusely in clusters. It is also considered a motif with particularly auspicious meaning – three gourds symbolize harmony and happiness, while six are believed to bring health and protection from illness.
The surface of the dish is adorned with the ajiro pattern – a traditional motif inspired by bamboo weaving, which was attributed protective significance and the function of an amulet against evil influences.
The combination of the gourd's symbolism and the ajiro pattern makes the plate not only an elegant tableware item but also an object of exceptionally auspicious meaning in Japanese culture.
