Hisago Gold Plate
Gourd-shaped (hisago) dish, inspired by one of Japan's traditional motifs of good fortune.
For centuries, the gourd has been regarded in Japan as a symbol of prosperity, wealth, and abundant offspring, as its fruits grow profusely in clusters. It is also considered a motif with particularly auspicious meaning – three gourds symbolize harmony and happiness, while six are believed to bring health and protection from illness.
The surface of the dish is adorned with the ajiro pattern – a traditional motif inspired by bamboo weaving, which was attributed protective significance and functioned as an amulet against evil influences.
The combination of the gourd's symbolism and the ajiro pattern makes the dish not only an elegant tableware item but also an object of exceptionally auspicious meaning in Japanese culture.
