IHOSHIRO is a ceramic studio specializing in creating original ceramic chopstick rests (hashioki). Located in the nature-rich city of Mizunami in Gifu Prefecture, the studio has, since its inception, focused on crafting ceramics with care, heart, and the work of human hands.

The company was founded in 1960, while the manufactory itself opened in November 2006. Currently, over 40 artisans hand-create unique and charming ceramic chopstick rests every day.

From the very beginning, their guiding principle has been to create ceramics that move the heart. Although capturing a sense of delight and a "spark of joy" in everyday objects is not easy, the studio constantly strives to convey small moments of warmth and pleasure through its ceramics.

At IHOSHIRO, great importance is also attached to the design and creation process itself. It is the subtle details, delicate shapes, and small nuances that determine the charm and quality of each item.

The studio does not use mass production or industrial mechanical processing. Each element is carefully handmade, which is why instead of the noise of machines, the workshop resonates with calm music accompanying the artisans' daily work.

Ceramic production requires large amounts of energy due to firing vessels at temperatures exceeding one thousand degrees.

At IHOSHIRO, love for ceramics goes hand in hand with environmental care, which is why the studio has been seeking more sustainable production methods for years.

While most manufacturers use gas kilns, the studio decided to install photovoltaic panels and fire ceramics using electricity.
